The early train
Aunt Stacie’s gifts arrived a few days early so I told the kids they could open them now, thinking they might be a little overwhelmed on Christmas Day. Nate couldn’t get the paper off fast enough.
Annabelle refused. You see, she had some issues this holiday season. After reading a Dora Christmas book where Swiper was on the Naughty List and wasn’t going to get any gifts she convinced herself she wouldn’t be getting any either. There was a small incident at school where the teacher had to talk to her (again) about hiding some of her favorite items. No big deal, it was addressed and let go. Except by Annabelle. She fretted about it for days. To the point of saying “just take the tree down, I don’t even want Christmas to come. I know only Nate is going to get gifts”. No matter how many different ways several of us tried to explain she would get gifts, there was no convincing Annabelle. So her gift from Aunt Stacie sat. Her one ace in the hole, in case there was no gifts for her to open Christmas morning.
Oh my dear child. You have the reasoning skills of an adult and the emotions of a 3 year old. I just don’t know what to do with you sometimes.
