Cinderella

Annabelle is a fan of the Princesses. Well fan is a bit of an understatement, Obsessed is more accurate. I have long sworn there are subliminal messages written in their gowns that turn otherwise sweet little girls into cult like followers. But, it makes her happy, and happy is kind of our thing.

Last week Annabelle was invited to a birthday party of a classmate to be held at a fun playground/pavilion. That in itself was thrilling enough, but the “BIG” deal was that Cinderella would also attend. That little tidbit was kept a secret from all small children at the party until she actually arrived.

We were sitting around tables enjoying dinner when she came floating (it seemed) down the hill. I heard someone say “Look who is coming Halle” and the girls all sat wide eyed and silent. Annabelle finally broke the spell by turning around to look at me and say “Mommy, is this real?” which made everyone laugh.

She visited, helped the birthday girl open presents and regaled the admirers with her story from rags to riches in the most proper of English accent. It was wonderful.

On the way home the following conversation took place.

Annabelle – Mommy, where did Cinderella get that dress?

Me – What do you mean?

Annabelle – Don’t you remember, her gown disappeared at midnight?

Me –Well, yeah, that did happen. (long pause while I figure this one out). Well, maybe when she became a Princess she had another one made to look just like it so she could remember that night.

Annabelle – Oh, well, that makes sense. I would do that too.

My goodness I love that observant little girl.

Now, that's a job I'd wish I thought of ... imagine the older generation of princess addicts who now get to live out their fairytale dreams as a Princess!
