The Yes Mom

I read a lot of articles, blogs & books about being a parent. A mindful parent, a grateful parent, an intentional parent. I only have one shot at this. One of the points I had *just* read about came up as we were taking pictures of the jack-o-lanterns. I was laying on my stomach on the living room floor snapping pictures of the kids when Nate said “let me take a picture of you & Annabelle”. My immediate thought was No. No, you can’t use my expensive (to me) camera. No, I went to the gym earlier and my hair is all stringy and I don’t have make up on and I have these old lay around house clothes and the living room is a mess and just NO. Thankfully before the word came out I remembered reading about being a Yes Mom. I remembered that they will remember the Yeses. After all it is just a couple of digital pictures and it seems important to them at this time.  I stopped and I reconsidered.

After the first few shots of the carpet Nate managed to get Annabelle & I both in the picture. (Full disclosure, I had to edit out the clothes basket to the left, but it’s still the same photo). Of course we were not ready for him so we didn’t have our picture ready smiles on, but I am still very happy with it. It’s us, plus I love her feet. and I don't love feet.
Annabelle’s turn behind the lens went about the same, a few pictures of the floor, one cutting Nate off and then all of a sudden the one (unedited!) with both of us. “Look Mommy, see I took a picture!”. Yes you did sweetheart, Yes you did.

I love these pictures. I've been reading blogs about moms getting into the picture, even when we don't think we look good, because it's how our kids remember us, and they will treasure those some day.
