5th Birthday Letter

January 5, 2014

Dear Nate,

Happy 5th Birthday! You have been looking forward to turning 5 for quite some time.  You keep promising “I’ll try this food when I’m 5 or I’ll read to you when I’m 5”.  I’ll be interested to see if there will be a shift in your willingness to change during your 5th year.   You are a purist; you like things in their original form and don’t like to experiment with food.  You like what you like. Vanilla over chocolate, any “kids menu” type food and you love a good breakfast.

You are still in preschool 4 days a week and continue to thrive.  Your best friends are Fritz, Parker and Alice.  You have been going to Kindergarten story times at Grandview every month to meet the teachers and becoming familiar with the building.  You are looking forward to attending school with Annabelle in the fall and riding the bus. (The B-U-S, the B-U-S!) For now we still have our drive time in the morning where you tell me stories about superheroes, and Lego’s, and Superhero Lego’s until we arrive. A few afternoons a week you come upstairs to my work.  You either hang out with the guys (Mr.  Merz, Doug & Bob) playing Rockem Sockem Robots or Dart Guns or play the Ipad.    I’m going to miss you next school year but will always be grateful for these 2 years we have had with bonus time together every day.

You and that comfy cozy pillow, still besties.  You are not quite as attached as you were last year but you still keep it either upstairs or downstairs depending on where you are playing.  Bedtime of course wouldn’t happen without “pilly”.  You are still such a cuddler; I love how you still love to snuggle up with anything “cozy”. Blankets, pillows, people, you are a cuddle bug.

This year you have gotten into playing with Lego’s. Mostly superhero Lego’s but really any will do.  You received a Lego Table for Christmas but still continue to spread them all around while you play.  I love when you create something out of spare pieces from the sets; you definitely have an engineers mind.  This fits in with your recent aspiration to be a “builder” when you grow up.

We are having a birthday party for you at PartyZone on your actual birthday.  We invited the boys from your Preschool class plus a few of your other good friends. TD, Jonah, your cousins Jessie & Jason, Logan.  Your Godfather Josh is coming dressed as Batman to give everyone their party favors. (Capes made by me & Nana).  You are really looking forward to the whole day of festivities.

You want to start taking acting class like Annabelle.  We let you know you must learn to read and I think that has given you the push to work harder at it.  I think you can secretly read more than you let on because you like to be read to.

Know how much you are loved dear kid, to the moon and back.

Mommy (although you tried out Mama for awhile it didn’t stick)
