Happy Mother's Day

Before Annabelle was born I read an article about a woman that had started a photo album of shots taken every Mother's Day of her & her daughter and how she enjoyed looking at the physical changes over the years. I can do this I thought, I have a clean slate. I bought the photo album. I bought us matching outfits. I would spend some time on my first Mother's Day doing my hair, putting on make up, this would be a classic portrait.

My first Mother's Day arrived, I was exhausted. Annabelle was only 2 months old, she barely slept. My Mom, sister and nephews visited that day, by late afternoon it was all I could do to stumble into a nap with my baby, wake up to feed her again. As the day came to a close I asked Tom to take a few pictures. We didn't get our outfits on, I didn't get my hair done but I got a few pictures. Next year for sure, Annabelle will be older, we will be better rested, we will have our glamour shot.

My second Mother's Day arrived. We went to church. We came home. Again my sister and nephews arrived (Mom is living with us now). We put together a big meal, we visited. By late afternoon it was all I could do to stumble into a nap with my baby, wake up to feed her again. As the day came to a close I asked Tom to take a few pictures. Again, we didn't get our matching outfits on, I didn't get either of our hair done but we got a few pictures.

This is us, slightly rumpled, not so ready for our close up but still so very much in love. I don't see us as the poster family for Mother's Day portraits. When do these people find the time?

Next year - we'll get the matching outfits on, maybe even a hair comb. By next year I will have actually put the first 2 years of pictures in the photo album, provided I can find it.
It does get easier, doesn't it?

Your Mother's Day shots are so lovely and convey much joy.

But I still wanna see the matching outfits!

I don't think that it does get any easier. You have a daughter, one day the last thing she will want to do is put on matching outfits with her mother! (Better do it next year while you still have a chance!)

Love the photos! Neat idea!
