My Dearest Annabelle,

Happy 2nd Birthday sweetheart! What we have accomplished in 2 years! You are so into your Birthday this year, a trait you inherited from me. This is your special day, it’s all about you, and you don’t have to share it with anyone. When you are 2 it is all about the “Theme Party”. You have been pouring over a theme party catalog since January trying to decide what you wanted for your party, finally deciding on Minnie Mouse. Now every night as I put you to bed you say “and tomorrow we will have a Minnie Party?” I reply, it will be Saturday and that seems to appease you. This weekend we will have your Cousin Jessica and our play date friends, T.D., Claire & Brady over for the Minnie Party if you don’t bust out of your skin first. Wait until you see the 3 foot inflatable Minnie I bought, you are going to love it.

Speaking of love, boy I sure do love you. You are light and air and everything I need to sustain. You remember everything, you make up silly songs and jokes based on things we said & did weeks ago. You are still a book addict and I hope you always will be. You have memorized your favorites, The Poky Little Puppy being one of them, and love to “read” to us. You sit and turn the pages and make eye contact and read just like Miss Karen at the Library. It freaks people out the first time they see it because it looks like you are actually reading and not just reciting. We are working on reading, you recognize about 10 3 letter words when we write them on the magna doodle, you know that C-O-W spells cow. We will get there, we have lots of time.

You love to sing and dance. We have been taking a music-together class for the past year that you absolutely love. Christmas songs too, you sing Jingle Bells at least once an hour, and then you change up the words for variety. Noodle Bells, Triangle Bells and Elmo Bells are the most common versions. You love Sesame Street with the puppets, when they do the cartoons or claymation between puppet segments you say “Sesame Street want to come back on”, meaning you want the puppets back. You also mix up Pronouns, which is quite comical. You will say “you want a goldfish cracker” when you mean “I want a goldfish cracker”. Of course I know what you mean but random strangers are puzzled when you say to them in the grocery store “You want a banana, they are delicious and nutritious”. First they are taken aback but the full sentence they just heard while they are thinking “do I really want a banana and how did that little girl with the sassy curls know?”

What a Diva! You don’t like to have your hands messy; you love to play “Fancy Nancy” (another book you adore) and dress up. If you are eating 2 different things on your plate that require a spoon, you want 2 spoons so the food does not mix. You freely admit “You are a Diva”, meaning of course “I am a Diva”. And you are, your Nana makes sure of it.

So Happy Birthday my Pinkle, I still call you Pinkle because you are. But you are my Pinkle and I love you so very much.
